If you are already a Rescue Diver you are ready to enroll in our divemaster internship program. This program takes approximately 6 weeks to complete and is designed to give you all the diving and non-diving skills necessary to work effectively at any dive center in the world.
If you are not already a Rescue Diver then you will first need to complete the necessary non-professional courses before you can enroll.
As a PADI Divemaster you'll be able to:
1. Act as certified instructional assistant to PADI Instructors.
2. Supervise participants in PADI experience programs for uncertified divers.
3. Generally supervise both training and no training related diving activities by planning, organizing and directing dives.
4. Teach and certify PADI Skin Divers
5. Conduct the PADI Scuba Review program for certified divers.
6. Enroll in PADI Instructor level training
During your course you will cover all the PADI requirements for the divemaster course. These include:

You must have a minimum of 60 logged dives by the end of your internship in order to apply to PADI for the divemaster rating. We offer unlimited free fun diving for all our divemaster interns so you will have no problem meeting the requirements.

To qualify for PADI Divemaster training, you'll need to:
1. Be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver (or equivalent).
2. Be certified as a PADI Rescue Diver (or equivalent).
3. Have logged a minimum of 20 open water dives prior to entry into PADI Divemaster training, and completed and logged a minimum of 60 open water dives with experience in night, deep and navigation prior to certification as a PADI Divemaster.
4. Be at least 18 years old.
5. Be in good physical condition for diving and submit a medical exam form signed by a physician.
Internship Costs & Options
The cost of the basic divemaster internship, including materials and PADI Membership fees is $775. This price includes the divemaster crewpack ($100) and your first annual PADI Membership and certification fee (currently $72.50). There are absolutely no extra costs!
Advanced Divemaster Internship
For those of you looking to advance your divemaster skills above the basic course we also offer a longer divemaster internship which includes a number of the most useful PADI Specialty courses. The advanced internship takes an additional 2 weeks to complete and includes the following:
- PADI Deep Diver Specialty
- PADI Search & Recovery Diver Specialty
- PADI Project Aware Specialty
- PADI Wreck Diver Specialty
The advanced internship costs an additional $200 and will allow you to be also certified as a PADI Master Scuba Diver if you wish. The PADI Master Scuba Diver rating is the highest non-professional diving rating recognized by PADI and is awarded to Rescue Divers who have also completed 5 PADI Specialty courses (all our divemaster interns get a free Nitrox certification).

Assistant Instructor training
If you are taking part in our divemaster internship program, or are already a divemaster, why not take your training to the next level and enroll in our PADI Assistant Instructor program?
Assistant Instuctors are dive educators who assist with, organize and supervise knowledge development, confined water and open water activities. They work in partnership with PADI Instructors to provide student divers with quality knowledge and skill development during PADI programs. The teaching Assistant Instructors develop during their training allows them to also independently conduct several PADI programs, and with further training they may also teach non-diving specialty courses, as well as the Emergency First Response program.
Assistant Instrutor Duties:
- PADI Assistant Instructors are authorized to:
- Present academic elaboration for and PADI Diver course under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor. The PADI Instructor must personally assess student knowledge development
- During confined water dives, present intial skills training under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor.
- Conduct open water surface skill evaluations during Open Water Diver course training dives under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor.
- Teach and certify PADI Peak Performance Bouyancy Specialty Divers under the direction of a PADI Instructor. A teaching status PADI Instructor must be available for consultation during the course, although not necessarily present during training sessions.
- Independently teach the Project Aware (non-diving) Specialty course.
- Independently teach the AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation (non-diving) Specialty course.
- Independently conduct Discover Scuba Diving in a pool or confined water environment.
Assistant Instrutor Course Costs & Options
The cost of the Assistant Instructor course is $400 including the required PADI materials and your PADI certification/processing fee. As with all our professional courses there are absolutely no extra costs involved.
New for 2009 - Assistant Instructor Internship
We are delighted to announce that from January 2009 we are working with experienced Course Director Peter Wilcox to offer Assistant Instructor Internships. The internship allows our students to get 2 weeks of work experience as a Assistant Instructor before going on to complete the remainder of their Instructor Development Course (IDC) with Peter at Subway Watersports. Peter is the most experienced PADI Course Director on Roatan and spent many years completing instructor training in Utila before moving to Roatan.
The Assistant Instructor Internship costs $550 including all materials and PADI fees. It is a great way to arrive at your Instructor Development Course ahead of the game and with some actual work experience with students under your belt.
